Should You Do a Camel Ride in Dubai?

A typical camel ride in Dubai is a short 20-40 minute experience, usually at a desert camp 45-60 minutes from the city. You'll sit on a saddled camel that walks in a slow, swaying line with others while guides lead them. It's not a free-roaming trek through empty dunes but a gentle activity often bundled with dune bashing, sandboarding, henna tattoos, and a BBQ dinner under floodlights at a staged Bedouin camp. Expect groups, photo ops, and a touristy but still enjoyable vibe. The actual riding part is brief; most of the evening is the camp entertainment.

Best time is November to March when it's cooler. Summer rides feel miserable in 40°C+ heat. Expect to pay around $30-80 per person depending on whether it's a basic ride or a full sunset package with dinner and shows. Private or premium options with fewer people push toward the higher end.

Pick the sunset version if you want decent photos and a full evening out. Skip the cheapest add-on rides at big hotels or theme parks; they're often just 10 minutes in a small pen and feel like a photo prop. Wear long pants or loose clothing that won't ride up, and bring a scarf for dust.
