Camel Riding in Dubai: What to Know

A short camel ride in Dubai is exactly what you'd expect: you sit on a padded saddle while the camel stands up with a lurching motion that feels surprisingly tall once you're up there. Most rides last 15-30 minutes and happen in the desert just outside the city. They're almost always part of a larger group tour that includes dune bashing in a 4x4, sandboarding, and a BBQ dinner at a desert camp. The actual riding part is gentle and slow, led by handlers, but the full experience can be noisy and crowded with other tourists taking photos. It's fun if you want the classic desert snapshot, but it's not a solitary Lawrence of Arabia adventure.

The best time is between November and March when daytime temperatures are pleasant and evenings are cool. Summers are brutally hot and many operators scale back. Expect to pay around $40-90 per person depending on whether it's a basic sunset ride or a full evening package with dinner and shows. Private or smaller-group options push toward the higher end.

Pick a shorter afternoon or sunset ride if you mainly want the camel experience without the tourist-camp entertainment. Skip anything that promises "authentic Bedouin life" — these are commercial operations. Wear closed shoes, long pants, and bring a light jacket for the evening; the desert gets chilly after sunset.
