Should You Climb the Warsaw Cathedral Tower?

It's a straightforward climb of about 100 steep, narrow stairs up the bell tower of St. Anne's Church, right in the heart of Warsaw's Old Town. At the top you get a proper 360-degree view over the red rooftops, the Vistula River, and the modern city beyond. Expect wind, occasional bells, and a fairly compact viewing platform shared with other visitors. It's not a long visit – 15-20 minutes is plenty – but the stairs are old and can be slippery after rain. People with bad knees, vertigo, or breathing issues should probably skip it.

Best time is late spring or early autumn on a clear weekday morning; you avoid both the summer crowds and winter ice. Expect to pay around 20-40 PLN for a standard ticket, or 150-300 PLN if you bundle it with a private Old Town walking tour that includes the climb. The private option makes sense if you want context about what you're seeing from the top.

Tip: do the tower climb at the end of your Old Town wander, not the beginning – your legs will thank you. Skip it if the weather is poor; the views aren't worth it in low visibility or heavy wind. Combine with a coffee in the square afterward rather than trying to squeeze in another museum straight away.
