Sitting upstairs gives you decent views of the castle and Georgian architecture, though you'll share the space with plenty of other tourists. The full loop takes roughly 60-90 minutes depending on traffic. It's convenient if your time is limited or mobility is an issue, but you'll see more by walking the Royal Mile itself.

Best time is late spring or early autumn – mild weather, fewer crowds than July and August. Summer offers the longest daylight and most frequent buses, but expect traffic and packed upper decks. In winter the experience is colder and shorter, though you might get the bus almost to yourself.
