Expect a large, well-organized collection of real artifacts: early mainframes, the Babbage Difference Engine, an actual Google self-driving car, old Apple and IBM machines, and plenty of interactive exhibits on software, AI, and internet history. The main floor is the highlight; most people spend 90–150 minutes there. It's clean, modern, and rarely feels overcrowded except on weekends. The experience is more “thoughtful look at how we got here” than theme-park flashy.

Best time is weekday mornings, especially Tuesday–Thursday. Avoid summer weekends if you can. Expect to pay around $20–25 for basic admission; guided or audio tours push it closer to $40–50 per person. Add parking or a ride-share from downtown San Jose. Spring and fall are ideal weather-wise if you plan to combine it with other Silicon Valley stops.

Honest tips: Take the self-guided audio tour only for the sections that actually interest you; skip the long corporate history galleries unless you're a serious nerd. Don't miss the restored PDP-1 and the “Revolution” exhibit. If you're short on time, head straight to the main hall and the self-driving car first, then wander. It's genuinely interesting but can feel like a lot if you're not already into computing history.
