Condado Lagoon is a calm, protected body of water right next to the Condado hotels and beach area. Expect a relaxed, flat-water paddle with views of the city skyline and the Atlantic on the other side of the thin sandbar. The water is usually clear enough to see small fish, occasional turtles, and seabirds. Most rentals last about an hour and include a quick lesson if you're new. It's easy enough for beginners but still fun if you have experience. The whole thing feels more like a casual urban paddle than a wild nature trip, which is exactly why many people like it.
Best time is morning (before 11am) or late afternoon to avoid the strongest sun and the occasional afternoon wind that can make the lagoon choppy. December through April tends to have the most consistent calm conditions. Expect to pay around $35-65 per person for a basic one-hour rental or guided outing; private or longer options push toward the higher end.
Pick the stand-up paddleboard over a kayak if you want the full experience and better photos. Skip add-on “snorkeling tours” unless you're told the visibility is actually good that day; the lagoon is pretty but not a reef. Bring a waterproof phone case and reef-safe sunscreen. If you're staying in Condado or Old San Juan, it's convenient enough to do on a half-day without needing a full excursion.
