Should You Do a Mini Speed Boat Tour in San Juan?

A mini speed boat tour puts you behind the wheel of a small inflatable boat, usually 12-14 feet, for about 90 minutes. You follow a guide in a loose convoy, weaving through Condado Lagoon and out toward the ocean. Expect a mix of calm-water sightseeing past hotels and skyline views, plus a few faster runs in open water where the boat bounces over small waves. It's genuinely fun if you like being in control and getting a little spray, but it's not a relaxing cruise. The guide stops at a couple of spots for photos and basic snorkel time if conditions allow. Most groups are 4-8 boats.

Best time is December through April when the water is calmer and winds are lighter. Summer and fall can get choppy or canceled due to rain and swells. Expect to pay around $90–$130 per person including basic snorkel gear and a short safety briefing. Private boats for two or three people run higher.

Pick the morning departure if you want smoother water and better light for photos. Skip the tour entirely if you're prone to seasickness or want a purely relaxing experience — a standard catamaran sail is easier on the stomach. Bring a waterproof phone case or dry bag; everything else gets wet.
