You stand behind a rope while keepers bring the orphans out; the babies are small, playful, and sometimes come right up to the barrier. It’s not a safari – it’s more like visiting a nursery – but it’s one of the better-run animal experiences near Nairobi.

Best time to visit is the dry season (June to October) when the roads are better and the elephants are more active. Expect to pay around $50–80 per person for a half-day guided trip that combines the nursery with either Nairobi National Park or the Giraffe Centre. Independent entry is cheaper but requires your own transport and can be logistically messy. One honest tip: skip the morning “foster parent” exclusive visit unless you’re donating significantly – the afternoon public slot is essentially the same experience. Pair it with Nairobi National Park in the morning if you can; doing just the nursery on its own feels a bit thin for the travel time involved.
