Deep sea fishing here is straightforward and rewarding if you enjoy being on the water. Expect a small boat heading out to the edge of the atoll where the seabed drops sharply. You’ll troll for tuna, wahoo, mahi-mahi, and the occasional sailfish or marlin. Trips usually last 4–6 hours. The sea can get choppy once you leave the lagoon, so if you get seasick easily this matters. Catches are often turned into dinner at your resort or guesthouse the same evening. It’s not a luxury yacht experience; it’s sun, spray, and reels.
Best time is December to April when seas are calmer and winds lighter. June to November can still work but expect more rain and rougher water. Expect to pay around $150–$350 per person for a half-day trip depending on group size and whether it’s shared or private; full-day charters with tackle and lunch run $400–$800 for the boat. Private trips are noticeably better value if you have three or four people.
Pick a half-day morning trip if you want the best fishing and still have energy left for the day. Skip the “sunset fishing with BBQ” packages unless you mainly want the evening cruise; the actual fishing is usually shorter and less serious. Bring your own polarized sunglasses, hat, and motion-sickness remedies. The crew will handle everything else.
