Doctor's Cave is the original Montego Bay beach — small, walkable, with genuinely clear, calm water and fine white sand. For the price of a day pass you get access to the beach, loungers, changing rooms, and a decent reef just offshore for snorkeling. It gets busy with both locals and day visitors, especially when cruise ships are in, but the water stays clean and the vibe is relaxed rather than chaotic. Expect a classic Caribbean beach day: rent a chair and umbrella, swim, snorkel, then walk five minutes to grab jerk chicken or a cold beer when you get hungry.
Best time is December to mid-April when the water is flattest and visibility is excellent; avoid peak cruise days (check port schedules) if you dislike crowds. Expect to pay around $10–15 per adult for entry. One solid tip: skip the overpriced on-site food and drinks — walk outside the gate to the nearby jerk shacks instead. Another: bring your own snorkel gear or rent it cheaply right there; the reef is close enough that a 20-minute swim gives you decent fish and coral without needing a boat tour.
