Should You Do a Prague Dungeon Tour?

These tours take you beneath Prague's Old Town to see a network of medieval cellars, dungeons, and underground rooms that once served as storage, prisons, or hiding spots. Expect a 60-90 minute walk with a guide who mixes local history, legends, and a bit of creepiness. You'll climb narrow stairs, duck through low passages, and stand in dimly lit stone chambers while hearing about alchemy, executions, and the grim side of medieval life. It's atmospheric but not scary like a haunted house – more educational with a dark twist. The route is mostly easy, though some spots have uneven floors and tight spaces.

Go in shoulder season (April-May or September-October) if you can. Summers are crowded, hot, and the groups feel rushed underground. Expect to pay around $30-55 per person depending on group size and whether it includes just the underground or combines with an Old Town walk. Private tours cost more. Skip the ghost-focused versions if you want real history; the straight medieval underground and dungeon tours give better substance. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a light jacket – it's cool and damp down there year-round.
