The Duomo terraces give you one of the best views in Milan. You climb (or take the elevator) up to the roof of the cathedral and walk among hundreds of spires, statues, and gargoyles with the Alps visible on clear days. Expect a genuinely impressive 360-degree panorama of the city, but also crowds, wind, and a lot of stairs even if you take the lift for the final section. The experience lasts 30-60 minutes depending on how long you linger. It's especially good at golden hour or just before sunset when the light hits the marble.
Best time is spring or fall. Summers are hot and crowded; winter can be freezing with early closures. Expect to pay around €25-45 depending on whether you choose the basic terrace ticket, add the museum and cathedral access, or go for a guided rooftop tour. The all-in ticket that includes everything is usually the smarter buy if it's your first visit.
Honest tip: Skip the guided tour unless you really want the commentary - the terraces are easy to explore on your own and the audio guides are often mediocre. Definitely get the elevator pass instead of walking all the way up from ground level. Buy tickets online in advance during peak season or you'll waste time in the long queue at the ticket office.
