Ekebergparken Hike in Oslo: Worth It?

Ekebergparken is a large wooded hillside park just south of central Oslo with a decent network of trails, open views over the fjord, and a solid collection of modern and contemporary sculptures scattered along the paths. Expect a relaxed 1.5–3 hour walk depending on how many detours you make for the art. The terrain is mostly gentle but includes some uphill sections and uneven forest trails, so wear proper shoes. It's a pleasant mix of nature and culture that feels far from the city bustle without actually being remote – you can hear the traffic from the E6 below on quiet days.

The best time is late spring through early autumn (May–September) when the woods are green and the viewpoints are at their clearest. In winter the park stays open but trails can be icy and many sculptures are less enjoyable in the snow. Expect to pay around 150–350 NOK for a return tram or bus ticket from the city center plus any food or coffee you bring or buy on site; the park itself is free.

Pick the full loop that drops down to the lower viewpoints for the best fjord photos, and bring a picnic – there are plenty of benches. Skip trying to see every single artwork; after about 15–20 pieces they start to blur together. Go early on weekends to avoid the biggest crowds.
