Ekebergparken Sculpture Walk in Oslo

Ekebergparken sits on a hillside a short uphill walk from Oslo Central Station. It mixes modern sculptures with sweeping views over the fjord and city. Expect a relaxed 1–2 hour stroll rather than a formal museum experience. The art is scattered along forest paths, so you’ll encounter everything from giant heads and abstract figures to classical-style pieces hidden among the trees. It’s pleasant and uncrowded compared with the city centre, but the terrain is uneven and involves some climbing, so wear proper shoes. The views are genuinely good, especially at sunset when the city lights start coming on.

Best time is late spring through early autumn. Summer evenings give you long daylight and mild temperatures; autumn brings nicer colours but can be wet. In winter the park stays open but paths get icy and many sculptures lose impact under snow. Expect to pay around 150–250 NOK per person if you join a guided group walk; doing it yourself is free except for any small parking fee if you drive. One solid tip: start from the bottom near the tram stop and walk up so the climb feels easier and the views reveal themselves gradually. Skip the café at the top unless you just need quick coffee; it’s average and overpriced. Bring water and a rain jacket – Oslo weather changes fast.
