Ekebergparken Sculpture Walk in Oslo

Ekebergparken is a hilly sculpture park overlooking Oslo with around 30 contemporary works scattered across woodland and open spaces. Expect a pleasant 1–2 hour walk on mostly good paths with some inclines. The art ranges from interesting to fairly average; the real draw is the combination of forest, views over the fjord and city, and the chance to get away from the downtown crowds. It’s relaxed rather than spectacular – more like a cultured park stroll than a must-see art destination.

Best time is late spring through early autumn. Summer evenings give you long light and the city lights coming on below; autumn brings nice colours. In winter the park stays open but paths can be icy and many sculptures lose impact under snow. Expect to pay around 150–250 NOK for a return tram or bus ticket from central Oslo plus any coffee or snack at the small café near the top. Entry to the park itself is free.

Tip: start from the Ekebergparken tram stop and walk the upper loop first while you still have energy for the views and stronger pieces. Skip the lower sections near the road if you’re short on time or energy – they feel more like filler. Bring decent shoes and a rain jacket; the weather changes quickly up there.
