An evening cruise on the Thames is one of the smartest ways to see London. You glide past the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, Tower Bridge and the Shard all lit up while the city shifts from day to night. Expect a relaxed 60–90 minute ride with a decent commentary (some are live, some recorded). It’s genuinely pleasant rather than spectacular — think gentle sightseeing with a drink in hand, not a party boat. In winter you’ll get dramatic early sunsets; in summer you’ll have longer daylight and warmer decks.
Expect to pay around £25–£55 per person depending on whether you want just the cruise, one with a glass of sparkling wine and a few canapés, or a more substantial meal. Late spring and early autumn usually give the best mix of light, temperature and fewer crowds. Pick the shorter evening departure that sails west-to-east or vice versa past the main sights; the longer “to Greenwich and back” versions often feel drawn out for what you get. Skip the dinner cruise unless you really want a sit-down meal — the food is rarely worth the extra cost compared with eating well on land beforehand.
