The bigger markets are crowded on weekends with locals hunting bargains, tourists, and vendors who’ve seen it all. Rosebank Roof Market is the most visitor-friendly with decent quality handicrafts and live music, while others like Bryanston or Fordsburg feel more local and raw. It’s hot, dusty, and you’ll be approached often — keep your wits and your wallet close.

The best time is Sunday morning from around 9am until 2pm, especially between March and October when the weather is cooler and drier. Summer rain can shut down outdoor sections quickly. Expect to pay around R50–R150 for most small souvenirs or clothing items, R200–R600 for decent handmade leather goods or larger crafts, and under R100 for street food. Parking is usually R20–R40.
