Fotografiska is a solid contemporary photography museum in a converted waterfront warehouse. Expect three to four strong rotating exhibitions at any time – usually a mix of big-name retrospectives and newer documentary or conceptual work. The spaces are large and well-lit, the displays are clean and thoughtful. You'll probably spend 60-90 minutes inside. The top-floor café and bar offer good views over the water and decent food if you want to linger. It's popular but rarely feels overcrowded except on rainy weekends.
Best time to visit is spring or fall on a weekday morning; summers are busier and the light evenings mean the building stays open late (often until 23:00). Expect to pay around 180-250 SEK for a standard adult ticket – slightly less with Stockholm Pass or student card, more if you add a guided tour. Guided tours run a few days a week and are genuinely useful if you're into the backstory of the work.
Tip: Pick the current main exhibitions and skip the gift shop unless you really need postcards. If you're short on time or not especially into photography, you can comfortably skip it – there are stronger art options in the city. But if you like documentary photography it's one of the better stops in Stockholm.
