A full-day city tour in New Delhi usually means 6–8 hours of driving and walking between the chaotic, narrow lanes of Old Delhi and the wide boulevards of New Delhi. Expect a mix of heavy traffic, crowds, dust, and intense sensory overload—especially in Old Delhi where you’ll visit places like Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, and maybe a brief rickshaw ride. In New Delhi you’ll see India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar, and the presidential buildings. It’s a solid way to cover the greatest hits in one go if your time is limited, but it can feel rushed and exhausting by late afternoon.
The best time is October to March when temperatures are tolerable. Avoid April–June (scorching heat) and July–September (monsoon humidity and flooding). Expect to pay around $35–70 per person for a private car with driver and guide; shared tours can be cheaper but less flexible. Solo travelers often end up paying the higher end for comfort.
Pick a morning start so you hit Old Delhi before the worst heat and crowds. Skip the overlong stops at government emporiums and handicraft shops unless you actually want to shop—politely tell your guide you’d rather spend time at the monuments. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and don’t over-schedule the next day. You’ll need recovery time.
