Expect crowds, especially near the entrance, and a 45–90 minute visit before the bus moves on to old mining towns and waterfalls further along the northeast coast. The full day usually includes Jiufen’s hillside tea houses and Shifen’s sky lanterns. It’s a long day (9–11 hours) with a lot of driving, but the contrast between the bizarre rock landscape and the green, misty hills is genuinely striking.

Best time is October to early April when the northeast coast is cooler and less humid. Summer brings heat, rain, and bigger crowds.
