Expect a simple, close-up encounter where you stand on a raised wooden platform and hand-feed pellets to semi-habituated Rothschild giraffes. Their huge heads and long tongues come right over the railing; it's tactile and a bit slobbery but genuinely memorable. The centre itself is compact, well-run, and focused on conservation. You'll spend 30-45 minutes with the giraffes, plus time reading the small educational displays. Crowds can build quickly, so the animals sometimes wander off once they've eaten enough.
The dry season (June to October, and January to February) is best: clearer skies, less mud, and the giraffes tend to be more active near the platform. Expect to pay around $40-60 for a straightforward visit including entry and feeding pellets. Half-day tours that bundle the Giraffe Centre with the elephant orphanage or a city highlight usually run $80-120 depending on group size and transport. Private tours cost more but avoid the shared-van schedule.
Pick a morning slot if you can; the light is better and the animals are hungrier. Skip the gift shop unless you actually need souvenirs—it's overpriced. If you're short on time, just do the giraffes on their own rather than a packed half-day tour; the experience doesn't need much padding.
