Athens Greek Islands Day Cruise: Worth It?

A typical day cruise from Athens takes you to three Saronic islands, usually Poros, Hydra, and Aegina (or the Agistri/Moni/Aegina combo). Expect roughly 8–10 hours total, with 1.5–2.5 hours on each island. The boat ride itself is pleasant but can get choppy; many people spend a big chunk of the day just sailing. You'll get swim stops in decent but not spectacular water, basic lunch on the boat, and time to walk around the ports. It's a long day with early departure (usually 7–8am) and return around 7–8pm. The experience is solid if you want a quick taste of the islands without committing to a multi-day trip, but it's quite touristy and the schedule feels rushed.

Best time is late May to mid-June or September to early October. July and especially August are hot, crowded, and the sea is often rougher. Expect to pay around $110–$180 per person depending on what's included (drinks, lunch quality, boat size, and whether it's a sailing catamaran or large motor boat). Smaller boats with fewer people cost more and feel better.

Honest tip: Choose the Poros-Hydra-Aegina route if you want prettier towns and some atmosphere to walk around. The Agistri/Moni version is better if you mainly care about swimming.
