Hang Gliding in Orlando: What to Know

A tandem hang gliding flight near Orlando is surprisingly calm once you're in the air. You'll be strapped to an experienced instructor in a two-person glider towed up by a small plane. After release you soar quietly for 10-20 minutes, often reaching 1,000–2,000 feet with views of lakes, forests, and distant theme parks. Expect some gentle turns and a few mild bumps in thermals, but it's far less scary than most people imagine. Landings are smooth on grass. The whole visit takes 2–3 hours including briefing and gear fitting. It's a genuine thrill without needing any prior experience.

Best time is winter and early spring (December–April) when the air is cooler and smoother with fewer thunderstorms. Summer afternoons can get bumpy and hot on the ground. Expect to pay around $200–$350 depending on altitude and add-ons; mile-high flights sit at the higher end. Book a morning slot to avoid the heat and afternoon winds.

Pick the basic tandem discovery flight if it's your first time — it's plenty for most people. Skip the video packages and extra photos unless you really want them; the memory alone is usually enough. Wear closed shoes, long pants, and bring sunglasses that strap on. If you're even a little nervous, just tell the instructor — they'll talk you through everything.
