Maui Helicopter Tour Guide

A helicopter tour is one of the few ways to truly grasp Maui's scale. In 45-90 minutes you'll see the jagged sea cliffs of the Napali coast, the enormous crater of Haleakala, and remote waterfalls that take days to reach on foot. The ride itself is loud even with headphones; expect some turbulence over ridges and a lot of banking turns so everyone gets a view. It's genuinely spectacular on a clear day and pretty disappointing if you're socked in by clouds or rain. Most flights depart from Kahului or West Maui airports early morning or mid-afternoon.

Expect to pay around $300–$550 per person depending on flight length, whether it's doors-off, and how many people share the helicopter. Late spring through early fall (May–September) gives you the best odds of clear weather and calmer air. Winter is greener but rainier and windier. Book a doors-off flight if you're comfortable with heights and want unobstructed photos; otherwise stick with a standard doors-on tour—it's cheaper and less intimidating. Skip the cheapest bare-bones options that only do quick circles near the airport; they're not worth it. Go for at least a 45-minute tour that includes Molokai or the Hana coast if your budget allows.
