Maui Sunset Dinner Cruise: Worth It?

A Maui sunset dinner cruise is exactly what it sounds like: you board a catamaran or similar boat in the late afternoon, sail along the west coast as the sun drops, eat a buffet or plated dinner, have a couple of drinks, and watch the sky turn orange and pink. The ride is usually smooth unless the trade winds are strong. Expect live music or a DJ, decent but not life-changing food (think grilled chicken, fish, pasta, salads), and a very social atmosphere. Most trips last about 2.5 to 3 hours. It's popular with couples, families, and groups of friends; don't expect intimate romance if the boat is full.

Best time is spring and summer (April–August) when seas are calmer and sunset happens later. Winter can bring bigger swells that make some people queasy.
