Is a Zipline Tour in Maui Worth It?

A Maui zipline tour is a straightforward adrenaline hit: you’ll spend a few hours clipping in and out of harnesses while flying over rainforest canopy, small valleys, and occasional ocean views. Most tours run 4–6 lines ranging from gentle slopes to longer, faster ones that hit 30–40 mph. Expect to be part of a small group (usually 8–12 people), with guides handling your gear and giving short safety briefings between lines. The actual zipping takes less time than the van ride, waiting, and short hikes between platforms. It’s physical but not extreme—most reasonably fit adults and older kids do fine.

Best time is April–October when rainfall is lower and trails stay drier. Winter (Nov–Mar) brings greener scenery but also more rain, mud, and occasional cancellations. Expect to pay around $180–$280 per person depending on how many lines, whether it includes lunch or photos, and if you choose a longer tour with a waterfall swim. Book morning slots if you want cooler temps and fewer crowds.

Tip: pick a tour with at least 5–6 lines and double cables so you don’t have to brake yourself—these feel smoother and less tiring. Skip the add-on photo packages; guides usually take plenty of shots you can buy later or just use your own GoPro/phone on a chest mount. Wear closed-toe shoes and quick-dry clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
