The hike up Mt Srđ is a solid 45-60 minute climb on a wide, rocky path with consistent views over Dubrovnik, the old town, and the islands. Expect a steady 300m+ elevation gain in full sun with almost no shade. At the top you get the classic panorama plus a cable car station, a small café, and a short fortress museum if you want to linger. It's genuinely one of the best straightforward viewpoints near the city, but it's a real hike, not a casual stroll. The descent is faster but the loose stones can be slippery, especially when you're tired.
Best time is early morning (start by 8am) from April to early June or mid-September to October. Summer is brutally hot and crowded; winter can be windy and cold at the top. Expect to pay around €25-40 total per person including the optional cable car descent, a coffee, and maybe the museum entry. Hiking both ways is free if you skip the extras.
Bring proper shoes with decent grip, at least 1.5 liters of water, and a hat; the path has zero cover. Skip the overpriced cable car ride up – the views are the whole point of walking. If your knees aren't great or it's over 28°C, just take the cable car both ways instead. The trail is easy to follow and doesn't require a guide.
