Most snorkeling excursions from Dubrovnik take you by boat to the nearby Elaphiti Islands or the waters around Lokrum. Expect 4–6 hours total, with roughly an hour in the water across two or three stops. The water is clear and calm in good weather; you’ll see plenty of small fish, sea urchins, and occasional octopus, but it’s not world-class coral reef territory. Boats carry 10–30 people. Gear is provided, instruction is basic, and most trips include a simple snack or lunch. It’s a relaxed half-day on the water that pairs well with a few days in the city.
The best time is late May through early October. June and September give you warm water, fewer crowds, and lower prices than July and August. Expect to pay around €45–75 per person depending on group size, inclusions, and whether you choose a morning or afternoon departure. Private or smaller-group options sit at the higher end.
Pick a tour that visits at least two snorkel spots and includes lunch if you don’t want to rush back; skip the ones that combine kayaking if you mainly want to snorkel, as the paddling eats into swim time. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a waterproof phone case, and a towel. If you get seasick easily, take something before you leave the harbor.
