Most Dubrovnik hiking tours head out to the surrounding hills or nearby islands like Lokrum or the Elafites. Expect a mix of paved steps, rocky trails, and some shade-free stretches with big views over the old town, sea, and islands. The walks are usually moderate rather than hardcore – think 3–5 hours including breaks. You’ll sweat, especially in summer, but the payoff is quieter perspectives most day-trippers never see. Groups are typically 6–12 people; private options exist if you hate crowds.
Best time is April–June or September–early November. July and August are brutally hot on exposed trails; winters can be wet and slippery. Expect to pay around €45–€90 per person depending on whether it’s a small group, includes boat transfers, lunch, or just a guide and water. Private tours sit at the higher end.
Pick a tour that actually leaves the city walls and goes somewhere with real elevation – the views from above Dubrovnik or on a quieter island trail are the real reason to do this. Skip anything billed as “easy” that still involves hundreds of stone steps if you have bad knees. Bring your own sunscreen, hat, and proper shoes; most guides provide only the bare minimum.
