Should You Do a Prague Dungeon Tour?

These tours take you through the medieval cellars, passages, and dungeons beneath Prague's Old Town. Expect about 90 minutes of walking above and below ground, with a guide explaining the city's layered history – from plague pits and torture chambers to alchemists' labs and hidden corridors. It's atmospheric but can feel cramped and damp; you'll climb narrow stairs and stand in low-ceilinged rooms. The experience is more educational storytelling than haunted-house thrills, though some evening versions lean into ghost legends.

Spring and autumn are best – fewer crowds and cooler temperatures underground. Summer can be stuffy below street level. Expect to pay around $30–50 per person for a standard group tour. Private options run higher. Book the version that includes both the medieval underground rooms and the dungeon if you want the full experience; skip the purely “ghosts and legends” night tours unless you enjoy theatrical spooky stories over solid history.

Tip: Wear sturdy shoes with good grip – the stone steps are uneven and can be slippery. If you have claustrophobia or mobility issues, check the description carefully or skip it altogether. It's a solid choice if you like history off the beaten path, but not essential if your time in Prague is short.
