The hop-on hop-off bus gives you a decent overview of Buenos Aires without needing to navigate the subway or taxis right away. Expect a double-decker with an open top that loops around the main tourist areas: Microcentro, San Telmo, La Boca, Puerto Madero, Recoleta, and Palermo. The full circuit takes roughly 2–3 hours in normal traffic. Buses run every 20–40 minutes depending on the line and time of day. You’ll get recorded commentary in several languages, but it’s fairly basic. Sit downstairs if it’s hot, windy, or raining; the upper deck is nicer on clear days but can be loud and exhaust-filled in traffic.
Spring (September–November) and fall (March–May) are the best times; temperatures are pleasant and you won’t bake or freeze on the open deck. In summer the heat can be brutal, and winter feels colder at speed. Expect to pay around $25–45 for a 24-hour ticket; multi-day passes are usually better value if you plan to use it more than once. Buy online or at the first stop you board.
Best tip: do the full loop once without hopping off to get your bearings, then use it strategically the next day to reach La Boca and Recoleta so you don’t waste time on local buses. Skip the Palermo section entirely unless you’re staying there; the bus crawls through traffic and the sights are spread out, making walking or Uber far more practical.
