Is the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus in Nice Worth It?

The hop-on hop-off bus in Nice gives you a decent overview of the city without needing to plan routes. You get an open-top double-decker with recorded commentary that loops around the Promenade des Anglais, Old Town, port, and up toward Cimiez. Expect the full circuit to take about 90 minutes. It’s convenient if you want to stop at a few scattered sights like the Matisse Museum or the Russian Cathedral without walking in the heat or figuring out local buses. However, the traffic along the seafront can be heavy, so don’t expect it to be fast or perfectly timed.

Best time is spring (April–June) or fall (September–October). Summer is crowded, hot on the upper deck, and the buses get packed. Expect to pay around €25–€35 for a 1-day ticket and €30–€45 for a 2-day pass. The 2-day option is usually smarter if you actually plan to hop on and off more than twice.

Tip: Buy the 2-day ticket and focus on the eastern loop that goes up the hill — the seafront stretch is scenic but you can easily walk or use the tram for that part. Skip the recorded commentary if you have any noise sensitivity; it’s loud and repetitive. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and water on the top deck — it gets surprisingly intense even in shoulder season.
