Hydra, Poros & Aegina Cruise from Athens: Worth It?

This is a full-day cruise (about 10–11 hours door-to-door) that takes you from Athens to three Saronic Gulf islands. The boat sails early, stops at Poros (about 50–60 min), Hydra (around 2 hours), and Aegina (1.5–2 hours). You get a mix of sailing time with views, some live Greek music on board, and a basic lunch usually served between stops. The islands themselves are quite different: Hydra feels atmospheric with its car-free harbor and donkeys, Poros is green and relaxed, Aegina more local and spread out. Expect crowds in summer and a fairly packaged experience — it’s popular for a reason but not a deep cultural dive.

Best time is late spring (May–early June) or September–early October. The weather is good, the sea is calmer, and the boat is less packed than July and August. Summer can be hot, crowded, and the music louder. Expect to pay around €110–€160 per person depending on whether you choose the standard option or the slightly less crowded “VIP”/upper deck version that includes better seating and a nicer lunch. Drinks and any guided tours are extra.

Tip: Pick Hydra as your longest stop if you have a choice — it’s the most rewarding for walking around. Skip the guided island tours; they’re rushed and you’ll see more just wandering on your own. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and cash for the islands. If you want a quieter experience, consider visiting one or two islands independently instead.
