A kayak tour on Lake Geneva gives you a completely different view of the city and the Alps beyond. You paddle along the waterfront, pass the Jet d’Eau up close, and get a sense of the lake’s scale that you simply don’t from the shore. Expect calm, flat water most days, a mix of sightseeing and light exercise, and the chance to see swans, sailboats, and the famous fountain from water level. Tours usually last 1.5–3 hours. It’s relaxing rather than adrenaline-pumping unless the wind picks up.
The best time is May through September. June–August is warmest and most pleasant, though busiest. May and September are quieter with fewer crowds and still decent weather. Expect to pay around $45–85 per person for a guided group tour; self-rental kayaks from automatic stations are cheaper, usually $25–50 for two hours. Double kayaks cost a bit more but are easier if you’re with a partner or kids.
Pick a morning departure if you can – the lake is glassier and the light is better. Skip the big generic bus-boat-kayak combo packages; they rush you and feel more like logistics than an experience. If you’re comfortable paddling, a simple self-guided rental from the Saint-Sulpice area gives more freedom and better value than most organized tours.
