Lindt Home of Chocolate Tour: Worth It?

The Lindt Home of Chocolate in Kilchberg is about 15 minutes south of Zurich by train and feels more like a modern chocolate theme park than a traditional factory tour. Expect a large interactive museum with exhibits on cocoa history, a giant 9-meter chocolate fountain, decent tasting sessions, and a shop the size of a small supermarket. The whole visit usually takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on how long you linger at the samples and interactive screens. It's well organized, clean, and family-friendly but can get crowded with tour groups and kids on weekends.

Best time is weekday mornings in spring or autumn when crowds are lighter and you don't have to queue long for the fountain or tasting areas. Expect to pay around CHF 15–25 per adult for the basic experience; adding a guided option or combining it with an old town walk pushes it toward CHF 40–50. Kids usually get reduced rates.

Honest tips: Go for the self-guided version with the audio guide and spend extra time at the chocolate-making demo station – it's the most interesting part. Skip buying chocolate in the massive store unless you want standard Lindt bars; the real value is the free samples inside the museum. If you're short on time or don't love crowds, you can easily skip the whole thing and just buy better Swiss chocolate elsewhere in Zurich.
