Should You Do the Longboat River Tour in Nadi?

The longboat river tour from Nadi takes you up the Navua River in a motorized canoe through farmland and thick rainforest. Most trips last 4–6 hours and include a stop at a waterfall for swimming, a short bamboo raft ride, and a visit to a local village where they usually serve lunch and perform a short meke. It’s genuinely scenic once you get past the first 30 minutes of wider, less interesting river. The boat rides can be loud and a bit bumpy, but the rainforest sections feel properly remote. Expect some walking on slippery rocks at the waterfall.

Best time is the dry season (May to October) when the river is clearer and the chance of heavy rain is lower. Wet season trips still run but can be cancelled or shortened if the river gets too high. Expect to pay around $150–$220 per person including transport from Nadi hotels, lunch, and village visit. Private tours push toward the higher end.

Pick a smaller group tour if possible; the big buses that dump 30+ people at once feel rushed and less personal. Skip the add-on village overnight options unless you really want the homestay experience — most travelers are happy with the day trip. Bring reef-safe insect repellent and water shoes.
