Should You Do Monkeyland Safari in Punta Cana?

Expect a very long day. The tour usually lasts 6–8 hours total with 1.5–2 hours each way on the bus from Punta Cana. Once there you get about 30–45 minutes walking through a fenced jungle area with monkeys that will jump on you, followed by a staged “plantation” visit that’s mostly a sales pitch for coffee, cacao, and rum. The monkeys are the main draw and genuinely fun for kids and animal lovers, but the whole experience feels more theme-park than wildlife safari. Food is usually included and decent.

Best time is December to April when it’s drier and slightly cooler. Rainy season (May–November) makes the trails muddy and the bus rides less pleasant. Expect to pay around $85–$130 per person depending on hotel pickup zone and whether you book through your hotel or direct. The cheaper options often have worse buses and longer detours.

Tip: Skip the combined “Monkeyland + Plantation Safari” if you can find a shorter Monkeyland-only version; the plantation part is mostly a tourist trap. Bring small bills for tips, wear closed shoes that can get dirty, and set your expectations for a commercial experience, not an authentic wildlife encounter.
