Paddle Boarding in Manila: What to Know

Manila isn’t the first place that comes to mind for paddleboarding, but it’s surprisingly doable if you head to the cleaner stretches of water around the bay or nearby lagoons. Expect flat, mostly calm conditions with occasional chop from the wind or passing boats. The scenery is very urban — you’ll be paddling with a backdrop of skyscrapers, container ships, and the occasional heron. It’s relaxing rather than wild, and the sessions are usually 1.5–2 hours including transport from central areas like Makati or BGC. Water quality varies; mornings are generally clearer before the afternoon breeze picks up.

The best time is December to May during the dry season when winds are lighter and rain is rare. June to November brings typhoons and rougher water — many operators simply shut down. Expect to pay around $15–35 per person for a guided session that includes board, paddle, life vest, and round-trip transport. Solo rentals are cheaper but harder to arrange without your own wheels.

Pick a morning departure if you want calmer conditions and fewer people. Skip sunset tours unless you’re okay paddling in traffic and dealing with glare off the city lights. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and a dry bag — you will get wet. If you’re a beginner, go with a small-group guided tour; it’s worth the few extra dollars for someone who knows where the jetski traffic usually comes from.
