The boat ride at Pagsanjan Falls is a full-day adventure: two guys paddle and push a narrow banca canoe up a shallow river through a dramatic gorge, then you shoot the rapids on the way back. The final stretch includes a short hike or bamboo raft to reach the actual waterfall where you can swim in the pool beneath it. Expect thrills, some splashing, beautiful scenery, and a decent workout for the boatmen. The whole thing from Manila usually takes 10–12 hours door-to-door including transfers. It’s touristy but the natural setting still feels pretty wild once you’re on the river.
Best time is December to May during the dry season when the water is clearer and the rapids are more fun. June to November the river can be brown and sometimes too high or dangerous for the trip. Expect to pay around $130–220 per person from Manila depending on group size and whether it includes lunch, entrance fees, and a guide. Private tours for two or more usually give better value.
Tip: book a private tour so you’re not stuck on someone else’s schedule and can control the pace. Skip the optional “shooting the falls” bamboo raft ride if you’re short on time or energy — the boat ride itself is the main event. Bring quick-dry clothes, reef-safe sunscreen, and cash for tips for the boatmen.
