Versailles Bike Tour: Worth It?

A Versailles bike tour gets you out of the crowded palace and into the vast gardens quickly. You'll meet a guide near the train station or entrance, then spend 3-4 hours cycling the grounds, stopping at the Grand and Petit Trianon, Marie Antoinette's hamlet, and quieter groves most walkers never reach. Expect a mix of history explanations, photo stops, and actual exercise. It's a solid half-day trip that feels more active and relaxed than the usual shuffle through hallways and crowds. The biking is easy - mostly flat paths with decent bikes provided.

Best time is spring (April-June) or early fall (September-October) when temperatures are comfortable and gardens aren't baked or muddy. Summer works but gets hot and busier. Expect to pay around $80-130 per person including bike rental and entrance to the full estate. Skip the full-day tours that tack on Paris-to-Versailles cycling unless you're very fit; the half-day versions focused only on the palace grounds are plenty.

Tip: Book a small-group tour (under 12 people) if possible - the difference in experience is noticeable. Skip the add-on palace interior tour if you're short on time or energy; the bike portion is the real highlight here.
