A guided tour of the Parthenon and Acropolis lets you skip the worst of the crowds and actually understand what you're looking at. Expect to spend about two hours walking the rocky hill with a licensed guide explaining the history, while you deal with uneven marble paths, strong sun, and usually a fair number of other visitors. The site itself is impressive but more ruined than many photos suggest—no roof on the Parthenon, plenty of scaffolding. The attached museum is excellent and worth an extra hour if your legs hold up.
Best time is spring (March–May) or fall (late September–October) when it's cooler and lines are shorter. Summer tours are hot, crowded, and exhausting. Expect to pay around €60–€110 per person for a small-group guided experience including skip-the-line entry; solo tickets without a guide are much cheaper but you'll miss most of the context. Private tours push toward the higher end.
Tip: Book a morning tour to avoid the midday heat and worst crowds. Skip the big bus tours that dump dozens of people at once; smaller groups or even an audio guide plus the museum on your own often gives a better experience for less money. Wear proper shoes—the marble is slippery and unforgiving.
