The petit train is a small electric vehicle that winds through central Nice, past the Promenade des Anglais, Old Town, and up to the Colline du Château for a 10-minute stop with solid 360° views over the city and Baie des Anges. Expect a 40-50 minute loop with recorded commentary in several languages. It's not thrilling but it's an easy, low-effort way to get your bearings and see the layout without walking uphill in the heat. The ride is gentle, open-sided in good weather, and popular with families and older travelers.
Best from April to early June or September-October when it's warm but not brutally hot and crowds are lighter. In July and August the train gets packed and the hill stop can feel like a cattle pen. Expect to pay around €8-15 per adult depending on the operator and whether you book ahead; kids are roughly half price. It's not a huge splurge but also not the cheapest way to see the city.
Tip: choose the version that stops at the hill for the panorama; the shorter loops that just circle the old town feel pointless. Skip it if you're only in Nice for a day or two and prefer walking— the views from the hill are nicer if you get there on foot or by bus and stay longer.
