Phang Nga Bay is the classic limestone karst landscape you see in postcards — towering cliffs rising straight out of the sea, hidden lagoons, and caves you can paddle through. Most tours from Phuket last 8–10 hours and combine a boat ride with canoeing into the mangroves or visiting James Bond Island. Expect a lot of other boats; it’s popular. The better trips include lunch on a quiet beach or at a floating restaurant and give you time to swim. The worse ones rush you, play loud music the whole way, and feel like herding cattle. The sea is usually calm but can get choppy in the wet season.
Best time to go is December to March when the weather is dry and the water is clearest. From June to October the bay can be rough and many operators cancel or run reduced schedules. Expect to pay around $45–90 per person. The cheaper big-boat tours are fine if you just want the scenery; speedboat trips cost more but let you reach smaller caves and spend less time traveling.
Honest tip: pick a smaller-group speedboat tour that includes kayaking if you want to actually explore the caves instead of just photographing them from afar. Skip the cheapest mass-market tours that advertise “James Bond + elephant ride” — they waste half the day on land activities you can do anywhere. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes, and a dry bag; the boats get wet.
