Is Phoenix Animal Garden in Aruba Worth It?

Phoenix Animal Garden is a small rescue-focused sanctuary rather than a flashy zoo. Expect to spend about two hours walking around modest enclosures with parrots, iguanas, snakes, turtles, donkeys, and a few monkeys. Guides share basic facts about local wildlife and conservation; the experience feels more educational than entertainment. It's genuinely low-key — no big shows or rides — which some travelers love and others find underwhelming after a few days on the beach.

Best time is early morning during the dry season (January–August) when it's cooler and animals are more active. Expect to pay around $50–75 per person for a half-day guided tour including transport from most hotels. Add $10–15 if you want to buy feed for the animals. Skip the afternoon slots when heat makes both visitors and residents sluggish.

Honest tips: Do the guided tour — the guides are knowledgeable and you’ll learn more than wandering alone. Skip the souvenir shop at the exit; the stuff is overpriced and you can find better options elsewhere on the island. Bring your own water and bug spray. If you’re short on time or not particularly into animals, this is one you can comfortably skip in favor of beach or snorkel days.
