Offroad Buggies in Aruba: Worth It?

Expect a bumpy, dusty, and surprisingly fun ride through Aruba’s rugged north and east coasts. You’ll drive your own open-air UTV or buggy in a small convoy, following a guide over rocky trails, past abandoned gold mines, through cactus fields, and down to crashing waves at spots like the Natural Pool or California Lighthouse. It’s not a relaxing scenic drive; it’s loud, you’ll eat sand, and you’ll probably laugh a lot. Most tours last 2–4 hours and include basic safety briefings. The vehicles are easy to drive but require attention on uneven ground. It’s a solid way to see parts of the island you can’t reach by rental car.

The best time is January through April when it’s dry and the trails are less muddy. Rainy season (October–December) can make some routes slippery and messy. Expect to pay around $150–$280 per vehicle depending on group size, tour length, and whether it includes pickup, drinks, or a cooler. Four-seater buggies usually work out cheapest per person if you split with friends.

Tip: pick a morning tour to avoid the worst heat and afternoon winds. Skip the cheapest no-guide rentals unless you’re very comfortable navigating off-road on a small island with limited cell service. A guided convoy is safer and you’ll actually find the good spots.
