Catamaran Snorkeling in Aruba: What to Know

Expect a half-day trip (about 3.5–4 hours) on a spacious catamaran carrying 20–40 people. You’ll sail to two or three spots, usually including the shallow Antilla shipwreck where you snorkel among scattered metal structures covered in coral and fish. The water is typically calm on the leeward side, visibility is excellent (often 50–80 ft), and the crew handles all gear, serves drinks, and gives basic briefings. It’s relaxed rather than adventurous – more floating bar with snorkeling than hardcore dive trip. You spend roughly equal time sailing, swimming, and lounging on deck.

Best time is January through August when seas are flattest and visibility is highest; September–December can bring rougher water and occasional rain, though prices drop. Expect to pay around $65–$95 per person for a standard tour including snorkel gear, soft drinks, and lunch or snacks. Private or smaller-boat options run $120–$180.

Pick a morning departure to avoid the afternoon chop and get better light for photos. Skip the biggest party boats if you want a quieter experience with fewer drunks – look for smaller-group sails that emphasize snorkeling time over open-bar volume. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard, and your own water; the provided towels are usually tiny.
