Seabob Underwater Scooter in Aruba: Worth It?

A Seabob tour feels like a mix between snorkeling and riding a underwater jetski. You get a quick lesson on the beach, strap on the scooter, and zip along reefs at up to 10-12 mph while breathing through a snorkel. Expect 45-90 minutes in the water, seeing parrotfish, rays, and small wrecks on shallow reefs. The scooter lets you dive down 5-10 feet easily, so you cover more ground than regular snorkeling without much effort. Groups are usually small (6-10 people) and tours run from calm beaches on the south or west coast. It's fun if you like being in the water but gets repetitive after 30 minutes if you're not into marine life.

Best time is January to August when seas are calmest and visibility often exceeds 60 feet. Avoid September-November if possible; trade winds and occasional swells can make it choppy and reduce clarity. Expect to pay around $100-160 per person for a standard small-group tour including gear and guide. Private tours run $200-350 depending on group size.

Pick the Mangel Halto or similar south coast reef tour if you want reliable conditions and good marine life; skip north coast options unless you're an experienced diver because currents can be stronger. Bring your own snorkel mask if you have one that fits perfectly; rental gear is fine but not always the best fit. Don't bother with add-on photos unless you really want them; the guide usually takes plenty you can buy later.
