Should You Do the Pirate Tour in Nassau?

The Nassau pirate tour is basically a 3-hour private or small-group sightseeing trip in an open-air, custom-built jeep with a guide who focuses on the island’s pirate history. You’ll stop at 8–10 places including forts, old pirate hangouts, beaches, and viewpoints. Expect a mix of decent historical storytelling, some cheesy pirate jokes, photo ops, and a fair amount of driving around New Providence. It’s not a boat trip and there’s no actual swashbuckling; it’s history sightseeing with a pirate theme. Most people enjoy it if they like quirky tours, but it can feel a bit long if you’re not into history or jeeps in the heat.

Best time is December through April when it’s cooler and drier. Avoid July–October if you hate humidity and heavy rain. Expect to pay around $160–$220 per person for a private tour (cheaper per head if you fill a vehicle with 4–6 people). Group tours run a bit less but you lose flexibility.

Tip: Book a private jeep if you can — it lets you control the pace and skip the stops you don’t care about. Skip the add-on “pirate treasure hunt” or rum tasting if offered; they’re usually rushed and overpriced. Wear sunscreen, bring water, and don’t expect a party — it’s more edutainment than theme-park ride.
