A guided walk through Quartier Habous (the New Medina) is one of the better ways to see a calmer, more traditional side of Casablanca. Expect tidy whitewashed streets, arched walkways, small artisan shops selling leather goods, brassware, spices, and books. A decent guide will explain the French colonial history mixed with Moroccan design, take you inside a few courtyards, and stop at a couple of local eateries. It's compact—usually 2 to 3 hours on foot—and far less chaotic than the old medina. The area feels safe and tourist-friendly but still genuinely Moroccan. You'll walk at a relaxed pace with plenty of photo stops.
Best time is spring (March–May) or autumn (October–November) when it's warm but not brutally hot. Avoid midday in summer if you dislike 35°C+ heat. Expect to pay around $45–90 per person depending on whether it's a small group tour with hotel pickup or a private experience. Street food or café stops along the way usually add another $10–20.
Tip: Choose a tour that includes a tasting or light lunch—it's the most enjoyable part. Skip the big bus tours that only spend 45 minutes here before rushing off to the mosque; you need time to wander the bookshops and markets properly. Wear comfortable shoes and bring small bills for tips and small purchases.
