Rafting in Bali: What You Should Know

Rafting in Bali means paddling down the Ayung River on a rubber raft with a guide, dodging rocks, riding class II-III rapids, and floating through rice terraces and jungle scenery. Expect a 2–2.5 hour ride on the water after a safety briefing and a short walk down to the put-in. The water is warm, the drops are fun but not terrifying, and most trips end with a buffet lunch at a riverside restaurant. It’s a solid half-day activity that mixes light adventure with nice views. Groups are usually 4–6 per raft; guides do most of the steering and shouting commands.

The dry season (May–September) is best – clearer water, fewer cancellations, and more predictable weather. Expect to pay around $25–45 per person including hotel pickup in Ubud or south Bali, equipment, guide, and lunch. Private trips or longer packages push toward the higher end. Skip anything advertised as “extreme rafting” or combined with quad biking; the river simply isn’t big enough for real whitewater thrills. Stick to a straightforward morning rafting trip with a reputable outfitter that provides decent safety gear and limits raft size.
